Kingston Black may - or may not- be God's gift to cider apples (I'm on the fence) but in this iteration you can see why some people might believe that to be the case. It is a bittesharp varietal and, as the name suggests, that brings sharpness/acidity to the party along with tannins (the 'bitter' element) and a bright fruit apple character. In addition this cider has seen time in an oak barrel, but not just any oak barrel, this one comes all the way from Kentucky.

While it's easy to get excited about cider in whisky/bourbon barrels I always approach with caution. Too much bourbon and you mask the flavour of the apples, too little and the exercise becomes somewhat futile. Here, however, the fruit and the barrel sing in perfect harmony producing something which is simultaneouslyboth  subtle and complex. No mean feat, and there isn't much available so I suggest extreme haste if you want to score yourself a bottle.
