Cwm Maddoc - Betty Prosser Perry 2017
Procuced by Jeremy Harris at Cwm Maddoc in Herefordshire this is a fantastic perry produced from a 'critically rare' varietal (no-one knows who the eponymous 'Betty Prossser' was). This perry pours golden bright with a lively sparkle but it's the nose that really catches your attention. It smells like Fino sherry. And that is a wonderful thing. I could have smelled it all day, but thought I ought to taste it as well. On the palate it is rich with the slightest hint of acidity, ripe pears, low tannin and the sherry characteristic from the nose is still detectable. With the low acidity it feels like the overall experience should a bit 'flabby' but not at all. 'Fat but delicious' was my final scrawled note, several of these have gone into my 'private collection' and they were scarce to begin with so grab one while you can.
