Butford Organic 'Medium' - Draught Cider/Litre
Made from a combination of 'Brown Snout' and 'Brown's' cider apples this still, draught cider pours a hazy deep gold/amber and has aromas of ripe apple, a subtle butteriness, a hint of funk and some noticeable malic/llactic acidity. The acidity carries though on the palate (most likely from the Browns, the Brown Snout tends to deliver a milder, rounder flavour profile) and I thought I detected a combination of malic (think green apples), acetic (think malt vinegar) and citric acid (think lemons). That might sound somewhat 'bracing' but the sharp edges are rounded out by some gentle 'funkiness' and the merest suggestion of vanilla/pastry.
This is a medium cider but erring towards the drier end of the spectrum and would be brilliantly refreshing served cold on on a hot day. If you enjoy dry white wines such as Muscadet or Picpoul de Pinet then this just might 'float you boat'.
